Uzbekistan Electricity to Afghanistan Fully Reconnected: Officials

Afghanistan’s power utility company, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) on Thursday said that importing electricity from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan has been fully reconnected, ending blackout in 16 provinces.

DABS said in a statement that there was a 60% reduction in electricity in the past two days, citing a technical problem in the Teli Marjan plant in Uzbekistan.

Afghanistan still imports up to 80% of its electricity from central Asian countries and produces only 20% from domestic resources.

However, on Wednesday (DABS) said that Uzbekistan has cut electricity deliveries to Afghanistan by 60% without any coordination with them.

The DABS said the decrease in importing electricity from Uzbekistan has caused blackouts in 16 provinces, including Kabul, the capital city.
