Top Russian and Syrian officials on Thursday called on the US to remove its sanctions on Syria and also put its troops out of the country.
Heads of Russia’s National Defense Management Center, Mikhail Mizintsev, and Syria’s Local Administration and Environment Minister, Hussein Makhlouf in a joint statement called for removal of sanctions by the US as it undermined social development in the country.
“Unprecedented sanctions pressure by the US and its European allies as well as the illegitimate deployment of foreign military units on Syria’s territory have a negative impact on the social, economic and humanitarian situation in the country,” the statement added.
