US Navy Deploys Four Warships East of Taiwan as Pelosi Visits Taipei

The U.S. Navy has deployed four warships, including an aircraft carrier in waters east of Taiwan in what the US Navy has described as a routine deployment. 

The deployment comes amid significantly rising tensions with China over a . visit to the island by House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The carrier USS Ronald Reagan had transited the South China Sea and was currently in the Philippine Sea, east of Taiwan and the Philippines and south of Japan and is operating in conjunction with the guided missile cruiser, USS Antietam, and the destroyer, USS Higgins.  The amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli was also in the region.

Navy officials would not comment on the precise location of the warships
