An alleged US Intelligence official claimed that Russia is planning a false flag operation in Ukraine.
The unnamed US intelligence official told CNN that Russian operatives were planning to stage an attack as a pretext for invasion.
National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan also said that there were Russian plans to commit covert ops before an invasion.
“Our intelligence community has developed information, which has now been downgraded, that Russia is laying the groundwork to have the option of fabricating the pretext for an invasion,” said Sullivan.
Sullivan added that the US was “very clear” with Russia on the costs and consequences of an invasion.
The intelligence warning came just hours after a major cyberattack struck Ukraine.
A study conducted by the Ukrainian Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security said that they believed that the cyber attack was made on Russian soil.
“There has been no massive attack on government agencies for a long time. We assume that the current one is related to Russia’s recent defeat in the talks on Ukraine’s future cooperation with NATO,” said the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture and Information Policy.
