US announces additional $200m aid to South American nations

The United States (US) is extending an additional almost $200 million in humanitarian aid through partnerships with international organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Mexico and Central America region. 

According to the press statement released by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the assistance will support the humanitarian and protection needs of refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced persons, and vulnerable migrants in Mexico and Central America.

Blinken added that they will also continue efforts through international organizations and NGO partners to assist governments by providing an array of support across the region. 

For the Central America region, the total humanitarian assistance since FY 2018 now is more than $594 million.
