Twitter Blocks Propaganda Outlets in EU and UK

Twitter has blocked Russian propaganda outlets in the European Union and the United Kingdom.

Twitter blocked access to the accounts of state-owned news agencies RIA Novosti and Prime, including RIA Novosti, Urgent news RIA Novosti, RIA Novosti Sport, and Prime.

Twitter had not yet disclosed the grounds for closing the accounts.

In April, Twitter limited the accounts of 300 Russian government officials, removing them from recommendations and notifications. Twitter said that posts from these accounts create “a harmful information imbalance.”

Russia limited access to Twitter in March, citing its federal law on information, information technologies, and information protection. The law regulates sites calling for mass disorder and extremist activities.
