Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Monday said they have initiated diplomatic contacts with Israel as part of efforts to normalize relations between the two states.
“We have taken many steps in terms of normalizing our relations with UAE, South Arabia, Bahrain, and Egypt are among the countries with which we held talks, “Cavusoglu said in a press conference.
Cavusoglu also said his country normalized relations on the regional level as well.
“On a certain level, our diplomatic contacts have been initiated with Israel,” explained Cavusoglu but added that his country would preserve its stance regarding Palestine.
Cavusoglu added that efforts to normalize relations with France have also been taken.
Turkey and Israel formalized ties in 1949, but it has seen several ups and downs, and the two countries’ relationship is especially sensitive to development related to the Palestinian territories.
