Grand Theft Auto and NBA 2K Publisher Take-Two has bought Farmville maker Zynga for $12.7 billion.
“We are thrilled to announce our transformative transaction with Zynga, which significantly diversifies our business and establishes our leadership position in mobile, the fastest-growing segment of the interactive entertainment industry,” said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman, and CEO of Take-Two.
Zelnick explained that Zynga will help their IPs penetrate the mobile market after already acquiring Top Eleven developer Nordeu, Playdots, and other mobile gaming companies.
The deal between Take-Two and Zynga however, hasn’t officially closed while Zynga has 45 days to accept a better offer.
“Zynga’s best-in-class studios can help us develop that property. Their best-in-class free-to-play mobile publishing operations can bring that to consumers and delight those consumers and create recurrent consumer spending along the way,” added Zelnick.
