Taiwanese F-16 Goes Missing During Training Flight

Taiwanese authorities have launched a search and rescue operation after an F-16V went missing during a routine training flight from a base in the southern city of Chiayi.

The F-16V, with the serial number 6650 and piloted by Flight Officer Chen I reportedly disappeared from radar view at 3:23 p.m. local time just 30 minutes after taking off.

According to Taiwan’s national rescue center, witnesses saw the F-16V “crashing into the sea.”

There are already two choppers and one coastguard vessel that have been deployed to find Chen and the jet.

There is no information on what caused the crash and if Chen managed to eject before the crash.

Air Force Major General Liu Hui-chien said that the remaining 140 F-16s will undergo safety checks.
