Producer Hwang Dong-hyuk said that he is now in discussions with Netflix about not just a second, but also a third season of the international smash, Squid Game.
Squid Game became Netflix’s greatest series in its history in the weeks after its Sept. 17 release, hitting 142 million-member homes globally and becoming the first to achieve 100 million views.
Hwang revealed that he had been working on a season two storyline during a special screening and Q&A for the series in November and was currently in talks with Netflix about another season — something he felt “a lot of pressure for” while in Korea and had since been asked about by the press in Los Angeles following the show’s breakout global success.
A Netflix representative acknowledged a sequel was in the works, saying that “a second season is under negotiations, but not confirmed yet.”
Hwang didn’t reveal much in the Q&A about the second season’s plot, other than to say that “Gi-hun is going to come back, and he will do something for the world.”
