Space Race: Virgin Galactic Sets July 11, 2021 for First Commercial Space Flight

Virgin Galactic has set July 11, 2021 as the date for the first commercial space flight of the company’s Unity rocket.

The announcement means that Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic will beat competitor Blue Origin to paid commercial space flights by almost two weeks.

Blue Origin is owned by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.

The Unity spacecraft is capable of achieving an altitude of almost 300,000ft and give passengers several minutes of weightlessness and a view of the Earths’ curvature.

About 600 customers have already paid deposits for the $250,000 tickets.
