Security video shows Phoenix shooter fire dozens of rounds in August rampage that killed 2

Authorities in Arizona released a security video on Friday showing the shooter in the Aug. 28 incident in tactical gear while firing dozens of rounds in a motel parking lot that killed two people and injured several others, including two police officers.

According to Phoenix Police Sgt. Vincent Cole, investigators found 200 spent rifle casings, five magazine cartridges, unused flash bangs, and a Molotov cocktail.

Cole said officers who responded to the scene found the shooter dead, presumably killed himself after firing “randomly” at buildings and cars in and around the parking lot.

From the released edited security video, the shooter could be seen walking outside an unidentified motel and immediately opened fire.

The video included a 911 audio of witnesses reporting hearing what “sounded like gunfire from an automatic weapon.”

At one point in the video, the shooter approached and fired at a white SUV driving into the parking lot, and in a few seconds, three people got out of the car and fled the scene.

According to reports, two passengers were left in the SUV and were fatally wounded.

In the video, an officer could also be heard saying someone had been shot in the ear and arm, while another officer was saying, “I’m hit, I’m hit,” in a body-worn camera released by the department.

According to the nonprofit Gun Violence Archive, the incident was one of 473 mass shootings tallied in 2022, with four or more victims of gun violence.

Gun Violence Archive also said they recorded 671 mass shootings last year, more than double the record in 2014, the first year the group started collecting data.
