Saudi authorities released a Saudi Princess, Basmah bint Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, 57, and her daughter, Souhoud Al Sharif after almost three years in prison, her lawyer confirmed.
Basmah’s legal adviser, Henri Estramant said that the two were released from their arbitrary imprisonment, and arrived at their home in Jeddah on Thursday 6 January 2022.
“The princess is doing fine,” Estramant said, but she will be seeking medical expertise
Estramant furthered that Princess Basmah is in good spirits and to reunite with her sons in person.
The two were detained by Saudi authorities in March 2019 for criticizing her cousin and Saudi Arabia’s leader, Mohammed bin Salman for limiting women’s rights in the country.
There is no immediate comment from Saudi authorities on the matter so far.
On April 24, 2020, Princess Basmah called on her uncle, King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to release her due to her deteriorating health.
