Russian Foreign Minister Visits China

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with his Chinese counterpart as part of his visit to China.

Lavrov met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi before flying to India, which was only Lavrov’s second travel abroad since the Russian invasion began on February 24.

Lavrov’s travel allowed him to assess the health of Russia’s relations with China, which have come under increased international scrutiny for the country’s lack of retaliation against Moscow.

Wang reiterated China’s stance that “dialogue and negotiation is the only right way to resolve the Ukraine crisis,” and warned against “adding fuel to the fire.”

Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin have made their friendship public in recent years, even proclaiming that their relationship has “no bounds.”

“China-Russia relations have withstood the new test of changing international landscape,” said Wang after the meeting, adding that “China is ready to work with Russia to take China-Russia relations to a higher level in the new era.”
