Portugal has deployed at least 2600 firefighters and 800 to control 26 wildfires across the country.
According to Portugal’s National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), there are currently 26 active wildfires across the country.
Fire and emergency personnel have been deployed by the ANEPC by the hundreds to control major fires and also coordinated with local governments for evacuations.
The biggest blaze is in the town of Vale de Pia, in the municipality of Pombal where 451 firefighters , 113 vehicles and seven planes are trying to keep it under control.
In Caranguejeira, in the municipality of Leiria, 367 firefighters along with 113 vehicles were deployed while 330 and 117 vehicles were sent to Algarve where a fire near a university re-ignited.
In the village of Palmela, Setúbal, 282 firefighters and 90 vehicles have been deployed .
In Ourem, 474 personnel supported by 150 vehicles are at the scene but the fore has already spread to Ferreira do Zêzere.
In Quinta, the Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo resorts have been evacuated along with the Quinta Shopping Center.
Portugal is currently in a contingency situation until further notice due to a worsening risk of fire, after temperatures have gone past 45º C in some areas.
