Paraguay Reports Its First Three Cases of Omicron COVID-19 Variant

Paraguay confirmed on Dec. 27 that it detected its first three cases of the Omicron COVID-19 variant.

The Ministry of Public Health in Paraguay announced in a statement that three young tourists with an average age of 18 years from the Mexican city of Cancun tested positive for the new variant.

All three patients are previously vaccinated and are currently in quarantine, along with their respective contacts.

Health Minister Julio Borba said that health officials will analyze the data to determine if the country will impose new border measures and travel restrictions.

Director of Health Surveillance Dr. Sandra Irala recommended the public to avoid “traveling to countries where there is high circulation” of COVID-19.
