NY Daily News Photographer Injured in West Village Carjacking

A New York Daily News photographer was injured on Wednesday night after attempting to stop a man from stealing his car in Manhattan.

The incident occurred after A. Saverio “Sam” Costanza, 73, left his car in front of 275 West 4th Street in the West Village, Manhattan, and went to a deli at around 6:50 PM.

Tabbica Mahmoud, 44, allegedly jumped into the driver’s seat of Costanza’s vehicle while he was in the deli store.

Costanza ran outside when he saw the carjacking and jumped into the passenger side window as Mahmoud tried to drive away, but got dragged for three blocks and had his foot run over before Mahmoud lost control and crashed into a dining shed at West 4th Street and Bank Street.

Costanza was hospitalized in stable condition after suffering a compound leg fracture.

Mahmoud was taken into custody and transported to Bellevue Hospital for evaluation.

Mahmoud was charged with vehicle theft, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of stolen property, and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
