Morocco, Israel Mark 1st Anniversary of US-Brokered Diplomatic Ties

The Kingdom of Morocco and the Jewish state of Israel on Wednesday marked the first anniversary of US-brokered diplomatic relations, reiterating commitment to help achieve a lasting peace in the region.

During a videoconference, the foreign minister of Morocco Nasser Bourita, Israel’s Yair Lapid and the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken welcomed a partnership meant to further deepen ties, and avenues to pursue shared goals.

Blinken hailed the ties between Morocco and Israel terming it a positive step for peace in the region.

During the video call, Bourita accepted an invitation from Lapid to visit Israel in an immediate time.

Morocco renewed official relations with Israel in December last year as the two countries previously established diplomatic relations in the early 1990s.

The two countries reestablished diplomatic ties with the help of former US administration under the then President Donald Trump.

Last month, Israel Defence Minister, Benny Gantz visited Morocco and signed a security pact and Israel’s Economy and Industry Minister Orna Barbivai is also expected to visit Morocco early next year, media outlet in Morocco reported.
