At least nine fake COVID-19 vaccination camps in Mumbai have deceived more than 2,000 people since last week.
The scam was discovered last week when a Kandivali housing society filed a complaint.
The Mumbai police have already arrested eight people and filed seven FIRs in relation to the ‘fake Covid vaccination camps’ organized by fraudsters in areas like Malad, Kandivali, and Borivali.
The Mumbai police said that the fake vaccination camps might have injected people who have fallen victim with saline or saltwater but it still remains unclear. Authorities added that the vials used to administer the vaccines were originated from Gujarat.
The Bombay High Court had taken up a special hearing to hear the vaccination fraud case. The Court expressed anxiety over the issue and has directed Maharashtra State Government to file a progress report on the investigation, find out the contents of the vials, and run a health check on all the victims by Tuesday.
The Mumbai police have charged the arrested for an attempt to commit culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The Health Ministry on Thursday reported 54,069 new cases of COVID-19 in a day making the infection tally to 3,00,82,778 while 1,321 more deaths pushed the toll to 3,91,981.
