Knife-wielding man dressed as the Joker sets fire to Tokyo Train, 17 Hurt

A knife-wielding man in a Joker costume started a fire on a Keio Line train in Tokyo and started stabbing passengers on Halloween night, leaving 17 people injured.

The suspect Kyota Hattori, 24, started his attack at around 8 p.m local time while the train was at the Kokuryo Station, Chofu city. 

Hattori reportedly spread lighter fluid on the seats and started attacking people with his knife. 

Footage from inside the train showed the train cab burning while black smoke filled the air

The Tokyo Fire Department reported that17 passengers were injured from smoke inhalation and stab wounds including a 70-year-old man who is in critical condition. 

According to investigators, Hattori “wanted to kill people and be given the death penalty” and that he did not resist arrest.
