Israel Registers 11,978 New COVID-19 Cases In One Day

The government of Israel on Wednesday announced a record of 11,978 fresh COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, indicating a significant surge in new infections since the start of the pandemic.

Israeli Health Ministry said the previous highest record was on September two of last year with 11,345 new infections.

The new cases came out of 189,700 suspected samples tested in the past 24 hours, according to the health ministry’s data.

Another 125 COVID-19 patients reported to be in critical condition as of Wednesday morning, health ministry figures showed. Since the start of the pandemic, 8,247 Israelis have died from the virus.

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Tuesday urged Israelis to be patient in the light of the COVID-19 infections surge.

“We know there are lines at the testing centers… We are preparing to change the criteria for the tests in order to reduce the crowding,” Bennett added.
