Iraq Reports 4,466 New COVID-19 Cases, Five Deaths In Past 24 Hours

Iraq’s Health Ministry on Monday reported 4,466 fresh COVID-19 cases and five related deaths in a single day, overloading the total officially-confirmed cases to 2,118,779 nationwide since the outbreak of the virus started two years ago.

962 new cases were recorded in Baghdad governorate, 727 in Kirkuk, 660 in Erbil, 389 in Sulaimani, 287 in Duhok, 225 in Wasit, 210 in Diwaniya, 209 in Karbala, 179 in Basra, 140 in Babil, 134 on Najaf, 95 in Diyala, 53 in Dhi Qar, 51 in Saladin, 50 in Nineveh, 42 in Maysan, 35 in Anbar, and eighteen in Muthanna, the ministry said in a statement.

Another 582 patients have fully recovered and discharged from hospitals within the 24 hours, the statement said, putting the total recovery figures to 2,070,472.

The ministry also confirmed the death toll of a total 24,252 people due to the virus.

Meanwhile, the health ministry said that 8,899,067 people have been vaccinated across the country.
