Germany has recorded 52,826 new coronavirus infections and 294 related deaths in the past 24 hours, the country’s disease control agency reported on Wednesday.
According to the Robert Koch Institute, the total pandemic death toll has climbed to 98,274, while new infections have particularly been on the rise, especially among the unvaccinated people.
As many as 56.2 million German populations are fully vaccinated against the virus.
Meanwhile, authorities in Austria said travelers will need to show a negative PCR test upon entering the country. The country has already put in practice a nationwide lockdown for unvaccinated people in a bid to contain the rapid spread of the virus.
The Czech Republic also recorded the highest daily numbers of new coronavirus cases on Wednesday. The country has a plan to approve new restrictions in order to control new infections. At least 22,479 new cases were recorded in the country in the past 24 hours.
