Germany Records 357 COVID-19 Related Deaths, Over 76K Cases In a Single Day

Germany registered 76,414 new cases of Coronavirus and 357 related deaths in the past 24 hours.

The Robert Koch Institute confirmed the record-breaking COVDI-19 deaths as the country struggles with the fourth wave of the pandemic.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, the rise in new infections and deaths are alarming and has not been seen in the past three waves of the COVID-19 pandemic.  

The DIVI Association for Emergency Medicine added that there are 4,202 COVID-19 patients who are not in good health condition.

The outgoing German Chancellor Angela Merkel labeled Thursday “a very sad day” and backed calls for more restrictions.

The country had passed over 100,000 deaths from COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.

Germany’s Health Minister Jens Spahn said contacts between people need to be sharply reduced the situation is dramatically serious.

The German Defense Ministry said a Luftwaffe A310 medevac plane will fly seriously ill patients from the southern town of Memmingen to North Rhine-Westphalia state Friday afternoon because national health facilities overloaded.  

Hospitals in the southern and eastern regions of Germany are already running out of beds due to large numbers of COVID-19 patients.
