German police have foiled an alleged plot organized by anti-COVID restriction protesters to assassinate Dresden governor Michael Kretschmer.
“A police operation of the LKA Saxony is currently underway in #Dresden with the participation of the special task force. Multiple objects are searched. This was preceded by murder plans against @MPKretschmer discussed in a #Telegram group, about which the magazine @ZDFfrontal reported,” said the Saxony Police.
Police conducted searches in five Dresden properties and another place in the nearby town of Heidenau.
According to authorities, a 103-member group on Telegram plotted to kill Kretschmer, and other members of the state government because of vaccinations and the current coronavirus policy.
The group said it would use “armed force if necessary,” and claimed that they had weapons such as crossbows.
Several anti-COVID restriction protests have already been held across Germany which was believed to have been organized by the conspiracy theorist group Querdenker.
