France Records More than 200,000 COVID-19 cases in 24 hours

French Health Minister Olivier Véran has warned that the country is facing a massive tsunami of infections after 208,000 new Covid cases were recorded over the past 24 hours.

“I wouldn’t call Omicron a wave anymore, I would call it a groundswell. Given the numbers we have been seeing these past few days, we’re talking about a tidal wave,” said Veran.

According to Veran, some 10 percent of the French population had been in contact with somebody who is infected with the virus and more than two French people are diagnosed positive while a million patients were already suffering from Covid excluding those who are asymptomatic.

Veran also warned unvaccinated citizens to get the jab and said that 70% of people in Paris public hospitals intensive care units are not vaccinated.

France has only vaccinated 77% of its population and is rushing out booster shots to combat the Omicron wave.
