Fortnite Owner Epic Games Donates $50M to Support Ukraine

Epic Games announced that will donate all its Fortnite proceeds from in-game sales, including cosmetic in-game items and virtual money purchased in-store or online from March 20 through April 3 for humanitarian relief for people affected by the war in Ukraine.

Xbox is also participating in this campaign, pledging its net proceeds to Fortnite.

In a statement from Epic Games on their website, UNICEF, UN World Food Programme, UN Refugee Agency, and Direct Relief are humanitarian relief organizations that Epic Games is supporting.

These organizations are on the ground offering emergency aid, including health support, food and clean water, essential supplies, legal aid, and shelter. Epic Games also added that more organizations will be added to this list in the coming weeks.

As of March 22, Epic Games has raised $50 million in humanitarian relief funds to support people affected by the war in Ukraine.

The total sum raised thus far exceeds that provided by several countries.

Epic Games said that it would send funds “as quickly as we can”.

“We’re not waiting for the actual funds to come in from our platform and payment partners, which can take a while depending on how the transaction was processed. As transactions are reported, we’ll log them and send the funds to the humanitarian relief organizations within days,” Epic Games added.

Epic Games’ fundraising joins other efforts by games companies and their fans to raise money for the victims of the war in Ukraine.
