The Patient, a limited series on FX, is getting a new cast member.
Domhnall Gleeson will co-star with Steve Carell in the half-hour series created by Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields of The Americans. The Patient, which begins filming this week, has also expanded its cast to include Linda Emond, Laura Niemi, and Andrew Leeds.
In addition, Americans alum Chris Long has joined the project as executive producer and director of the first two episodes. Episodes will also be directed by Kevin Bray and Gwyneth Horder-Payton.
The Patient, which was ordered to series in October, stars Carell as Alexander Strauss, a psychiatrist who is imprisoned by a serial murderer with an odd request: restrain his murderous inclinations. Untangling this man’s thoughts while simultaneously coping with the waves of his own repressed problems produces a trip for Alexander that may be as perilous as his confinement.
FX Productions is behind the ten-episode series. Fields and Weisberg are co-writing and co-producing the film with Carell, Caroline Moore, Victor Hsu, and Long.
