Colonial Pipeline Hacked, Stops Operation

Colonial Pipeline has shut its entire network after a cyberattack and caused delays in the East Coast fuel supply chain.

“In response, we proactively took certain systems offline to contain the threat, which has temporarily halted all pipeline operations, and affected some of our I.T. operations,” said Colonial Pipeline.

Colonial Pipeline has not disclosed what kind of attack it suffered or whether any data was stolen.

Colonial Pipeline has 5,500 miles of pipeline, which carries 45 percent of the East Coast’s fuel supplies and transports 2.5 million barrels each day.

Colonial Pipeline said it had already contacted law enforcement and other federal agencies such as the FBI and Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
