China Discovers Oil in Bohai Sea

The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced on Monday that it has found a field with 100 million tons of oil equivalent of reserves of crude oil and natural gas.

CNOOC said that the field was located at an average depth of 23.2 meters, which is also known as Bozhong 13-2. It was also positioned 140 km away from north China’s Tianjin Municipality, in the middle of the Bohai Sea.

It was drilled 5,223 meters deep. The exploratory well of the field has encountered oil and gas pay zones with a thickness of 346 meters.

About 300 tons and 50,000 cubic meters is average daily oil and gas output at the well.

The CNOOC said the discovery is an innovation in exploration work in the Bohai Sea area.
