Canada Authorizes Pfizer COVID-19 Booster Shot for Adults

Canada has authorized on Nov. 9 a booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 for adults aged 18 and older.

The booster shot is identical to the regular Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 and should be taken at least six months after the primary two-dose vaccine series.

Health Canada said that the booster shot meets its safety, efficacy, and quality requirements, following an independent review.

“People in Canada should consult their local public health guidance for further details on which individuals or groups of people are recommended to receive a booster dose at this time,” Health Canada said.

The approval makes the booster dose rollout in some provinces in Canada, as well as the National Advisory Committee on Immunization’s recommendation on administering booster shots for high-risk groups, official.

Most boosters in many provinces have so far been administered to those aged 70 and older,  immunocompromised people, and frontline healthcare workers.
