California Man Breaks Guinness World Record After Eating 17 Ghost Peppers in One Minute

A California man has broken the world record for most ghost peppers eaten in one minute.

The Guinness World Record officially recognized Gregory Foster on Monday after eating 17 Bhut Jolokia chili peppers (110.5 grams) in 60 seconds on November 14, 2021.

“This record attempt is a personal challenge to see how far I can push myself and my love of the super hot peppers. As a chili lover, I’ve been trying to advance the awareness and the excitement surrounding the super-hot chillis out there. This attempt was solely a personal endeavor to achieve another Guinness World Record alongside my currently standing [ones]. I love chili eating and pushing myself,” Foster said.

The Bhut Jolokia chili pepper can register at least 1 million Scoville Heat Units, which means Foster consumed approximately 17 million Scoville Heat Units in one minute.

Foster also holds the records for most Carolina Reaper chilies eaten in one minute and the fastest time to eat three Carolina Reaper chilies (8.72 seconds).
