At least 25 people were killed and 75 were injured after a 10-story building collapsed in Cairo on Saturday.
The governorate’s crisis room was informed at 3:00 am (01:00 GMT) of the collapse of a building consisting of a basement, a ground floor, and nine (upper) floors,” announced the Cairo governorate.
Rescue workers and heavy equipment are currently digging at the rubble to rescue possible survivors and retrieve bodies.
Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram claimed that there were reports of four floors had been added illegally. to the building which led to its collapse.
Khalid Abdel-Al, the administrative head of the Cairo governorate said that an investigative team has been sent to the site and neighboring buildings to assess for any damage and to identify the cause of the collapse.
