BTS Wins Artist of the Year at the American Music Awards

BTS, the Korean pop group, won the prestigious artist of the year award at the American Music Awards.

BTS won the prize on Sunday evening in the United States, capping up a hectic year in which the band earned success after hit, including Butter and the Coldplay collaboration My Universe, both of which they performed at the AMAs.

The South Korean septet became the first Asian artist to win the award at the AMAs since the category was introduced in 1996.

This year’s socially distant AMAs celebration in Los Angeles comes only days before the nominees for the 2017 Grammy Awards, which will be held in January, are announced on November 23. BTS is anticipated to garner several nominations.

BTS beat over Ariana Grande, Drake, Olivia Rodrigo, The Weeknd, and Taylor Swift, the incumbent AMAs Artist of the Year.

Along with Artist of the Year, BTS was named the favorite pair or group pop artist in 2021, while Butter was named the favorite pop song.
