Australia to Deport British Columnist for Breaking Quarantine Rules

Australian Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews announced on Monday that controversial right-wing British commentator Katie Hopkins will be deported from the country after she flaunted on Instagram that she broke Australia’s quarantine rules.

Hopkins flew to Australia to appear in the reality television program Big Brother VIP and was immediately placed under a 14-day mandatory quarantine.

However, the 46-year-old far-right British commentator posted a video on Instagram saying her intentions to deliberately breaking the quarantine rules by opening her hotel room’s door naked and without a face mask.

Her actions incited the government and the public’s condemnation, especially now that Australia’s two major cities, Sydney and Melbourne, have been placed under lockdown due to the rampant coronavirus outbreak caused by the highly contagious delta variant.

“The fact that she was out there boasting about breaching quarantine was just appalling,” Andrews told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on Monday. “We will be getting her out of the country as soon as we can arrange that.”

“All visa holders must abide by the health directions issued by our health officials. We won’t tolerate those who don’t,” she added.
