Atlanta, an Emmy-winning series, will return to FX on March 24, almost four years after its second season concluded.
Atlanta‘s second season premiered on March 1, 2018 and finished on May 10 of that year.
“We are thrilled to have Atlanta back with a new season on March 24. Once again, Donald Glover, the producers, and stellar cast have delivered another signature season synonymous with the excellence that makes Atlanta so great,” said FX Entertainment president Eric Schrier.
Season three will also be available on Hulu the day after it airs on FX, making Atlanta the first show to have in-season streaming on the Disney-owned portal.
The debut date concludes a string of setbacks for the third season of the sitcom, developed and starring Glover.
FX had anticipated a 2019 premiere for season three after renewing the series for a third season in June 2018. However, FX president John Landgraf told reporters in early 2019 that a combination of Glover’s busy schedule and other obstacles caused a delay in writing for season three.
Atlanta received an early fourth-season renewal with FX in August 2019, with the intention of filming two seasons back-to-back in spring 2020. The epidemic disrupted that timetable as well; manufacturing resumed in April.
Season three is nearly entirely set (and filmed) in Europe. It follows Earn (Glover), Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry), Darius (LaKeith Stanfield), and Van (Zazie Beetz) as they navigate their new circumstances as outsiders and struggle to acclimate to the unexpected success they had aspired to after a successful European tour.
