Rapper A$AP Rocky was charged on Monday with assault and allegedly fired a handgun at his former friend in Hollywood in November last year.
The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office said Rakim Athelaston Mayers, known as A$AP Rocky, is charged with two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm.
Los Angeles officials said Mayers fired a handgun twice in the direction of a former friend after a “heated discussion” in Hollywood on November 6 last year.
Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said the shooting could have ended with tragic consequences.
“Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offense that could have ended with tragic consequences not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood. My office conducted a thorough review of the evidence in this case and determined that the addition of a special firearm allegation was warranted,” Gascón said.
The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office scheduled Mayers’ arraignment on Wednesday in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.
