5th Round Of Iran-Saudi Negotiations To Be Held in Iraq

Iran’s ambassador to Iraq, Iraj Masjedi, said that the 5th round of talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia will soon be held in Iraq.

Mr. Masjedi said the representatives of the both sides will discuss bilateral and regional issues during the talks.

The envoy said that Iraq, being a good neighbor, had already hosted fourth rounds of negotiations between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

“We, the regional countries, can resolve our problems without the third countries intervention,” Masjedi said.

Recently, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh said that talks between Tehran and Riyadh are in progress uninterruptedly, but the two sides have decided not to advance the negotiations publicly.

Diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia worsened after Riyadh executed a Shiite cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr in 2016 – in retaliation a number of angry protestors attacked Saudi’s embassy in Iran’s capital Tehran.
