US Readies $1 Billion in Military Aid Package to Ukraine

The United States will send Ukraine an additional $1 billion in weapons and military aid to fight Russia the Biden administration announced Wednesday.

The U.S. military assistance package includes:

  • two Harpoon launchers.
  • M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System rockets,
  • 18 M777 howitzers,
  • 36,000 rounds of 155mm ammunition,
  • thousands of secure radios.

With Ukrainian forces facing a tough fight for Eastern Ukraine and Russian troops mustering in the Southeast of the country,  the U.S. has been sending arms meant to take out positions from which Russian forces launch brutal artillery barrages.

The US has given about $8.8bn in aid to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion on February 24.

The Pentagon has also approved a plan that would allow Ukrainians to receive medical treatment at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany near Ramstein Air Base.
