Russian Hypersonic Missile Scientist Detained and Charged With Treason

A Russian hypersonic missile expert has been detained and charged on suspicion of treason, according to Russia’s state TASS news agency

Professor Alexander Shiplyuk, 55, was held in a purge by the FSB counter-intelligence agency in Novosibirsk, Siberia where he heads the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics.

If convicted he faces up to 20 years in a Russian prison.

Shiplyuk is the latest academic to be detained in a wave of arrests of. researchers on suspicion of handing secrets to foreign powers.

Like other detainees he has been taken to the notorious Lefortovo prison in Moscow for interrogation.
