Sri Lankan Commonwealth Games athletes went missing on Monday, prompting authorities from the country and Birmingham to probe into their disappearance throughout the week.
A Sri Lankan wrestler, a judoka, and a judo official reportedly went missing from the Sri Lankan team on Monday.
West Midlands Police investigated the disappearance of the Sri Lankan athletes and found Marappulige Chamila Dilani, the judoka, and Tikiri Hannadige Duminda Asela De Silva, the judo official, on Thursday.
“Two people – a woman in her 30s and a man in his 40s, were reported missing on 1 Aug. Both have now been located and are no longer missing,” West Midlands Police said.
West Midlands Police are still locating the Sri Lankan wrestler.
The Sri Lankan committee has asked its Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games athletes and officials to surrender their passports after the disappearance of the three athletes.
“We have asked all athletes and officials to submit their passports to our respective venue officials in all the villages after the incident. The police are investigating, and the three cannot cross the UK borders. What has happened is really unfortunate,” Sri Lankan team spokesperson Gobinath Sivarajah said.
