Rapper Mystikal Arrested on Charges of Rape, Domestic Abuse Battery

Police in Louisiana arrested rapper Mystikal on charges of rape, domestic abuse battery, and other counts in Baton Rouge.

The rapper, whose real name is Michael Tyler, faces charges of first-degree rape, simple robbery, domestic abuse battery, false imprisonment, and simple criminal damage to property, according to a statement from the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 1.

The Sheriff’s Office said that officers arrested Mystikal, 51, after they interviewed a sexual assault victim at a nearby hospital before midnight on July 30.

The victim sustained minor injuries during the attack, according to Sheriff Bobby Webre.

The rapper is awaiting arraignment at Ascension Parish Jail, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

This is the third time Mystikal has been publicly accused of sexual assault.

In 2003, Mystikal served six years in prison after he pleaded guilty to sexual battery and extortion.

In the same year, Mystikal earned two Grammy nominations for best male rap solo performance and for best rap album.

In December 2020, a grand jury cleared Mystikal of rape and kidnapping, stemming from a 2016 accusation.
