7-Year-Old Injured in Hit-and-Run with 11-Year-Old Behind the Wheel

Washington DC police have identified an 11-year-old suspect on Tuesday who stole a car and struck a 7-year-old in a hit-and-run incident.

The Metropolitan Police Department of Washington DC responded to a report of a crash that had taken place in the parking lot of the Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC), in the 1800 block of Mississippi Avenue SE at about 6.49 PM on Monday.

DC police officers discovered a “conscious and alert” 7-year-old boy who was hit by a 2020 Kia Optica and said the vehicle’s driver had abandoned the scene  before fleeing on foot.

“The driver of the vehicle has been identified and is an 11-year-old juvenile male,” the DC Police said.

Medical respondents flew the 7-year-old boy to a hospital in a helicopter after the incident.

Washington DC police said the 7-year-old boy suffered a serious but non-life-threatening injury.

No charges in the case have been filed, and the Office of the Attorney General will evaluate the case because of the driver’s age.
