Ex-President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to Return to Sri Lanka from Singapore

Sri Lankan Cabinet Spokesman Bandula Gunawardena announced that Ex-President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will return to the country after fleeing mass protests earlier this month.

Gunawardena defended that Rajapaksa went to Singapore through the right channels and was not in hiding.

Gunawardena however did not disclose the exact date when Rajapaksa would be returning.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singapore clarified that Rajapaksa had not asked for asylum and was not granted any.

Lawyers from the South Africa-based International Truth and Justice Project (ITJP) have also submitted a criminal complaint to the Attorney General of Singapore requesting the immediate arrest of Rajapaksa for war crimes but there is not response yet.
