Son of Retired New York Judge Kills Mom Before Jumping Off Building

The son of a prominent former Manhattan judge bludgeoned his mother to death before jumping 16 stories to his death from their Upper East Side luxury building on Tuesday.

A New York senior police official said that Doug Solomon, 26, allegedly fatally beat his mother, Diane Gallagher, 65, striking her in the head with a piece of furniture at their home on East 79th Street in Manhattan.

New York Police Department officers arrived at the scene around 10:30 AM and discovered Solomon in the courtyard of the East 79th Street building “unconscious and unresponsive” with trauma to his body.

Gallagher was found lifeless next to a bedside lamp which was believed to have been the murder weapon.

Charles Solomon, Doug’s father and Gallagher’s husband, served as a judge on the Manhattan Supreme Court for more than 30 years before retiring in 2018.
