A man has killed five members of his family, including three children, before French police shot him dead on Wednesday.
A 22-year-old suspect in the village of Douvres located the foothills of the Alps reporteldly held his relatives hostage in a house in Douvres in eastern France since Tuesday evening before Special forces from the National Gendarmerie Intervention Group arrived at the scene and shot him.
The suspect was allegedly armed with a long-barrelled rifle and a Japanese sword.
Christian Limousin, mayor of a neighboring village, said the suspect had killed five members of his own family, the suspect’s father, stepmother, and his three siblings, aged 17, 15, and five.
Neither the French police nor the local prosecutor’s office confirmed the identity of the victims.
