At least 25 people were killed and 31 others received injuries after a passenger bus slammed into a parked truck on a highway in southern Egypt on Tuesday.
The deadly crash took place in Minya province on the main highway linking Cairo, the capital city to southern Egypt.
“The bus with 45 passengers on board was heading to Cairo when it crashed with a truck while its driver was busy changing tires on the roadside,” Ahram Online reported, citing a source.
The cause of the crash is not immediately clear.
Ten ambulances rushed to the scene soon after the incident and transferred the injured to the hospitals in Minya.
Provincial health officials said at least 16 of the injured were discharged from hospitals after receiving treatment.
Traffic accidents kill a large number of people every year in Egypt due to high speed, careless driving, bad roads and poor enforcement of traffic laws.
