Thai Pro-Democracy Activists and Dissidents Targeted with Pegasus Spyware

Dozens of Thai dissidents and activists involved in pro-democracy protests were targets of Pegasus spyware during a government crackdown on dissent.

The individuals – who include academics, activists, journalists, and civil society leaders – were targeted and monitored by an unnamed entity using the Israeli-made spyware for the past two years.

The forensic investigation by a group of internet watchdog organizations Citizen Lab from Canada, and iLaw, and DigitalReach in Thailand.

Developed by Israeli security firm NSO, the Pegasus spyware allows users to intercept, read text messages and track the calls and real-time locations of targeted individuals..

The Thai government and NSO failed to respond to requests for comment
