Suicide Car Bombing Injures Somalia Health Minister

Hirshabele State Humanitarian and Disaster Management Minister Abdifatah Qoorgaab confirmed that a suicide car bombing that targeted the popular hotel Nur-doob killed at least three people and wounded 14, including senior regional administration officials and the Hirshabelle state health minister.

According to reports, the Al Qaeda-affiliated terrorist group Al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the suicide car bomb attack. 

Jowhar police also said that the suicide car bombing destroyed many nearby buildings and businesses. 

Member of the Somali parliament Mohamed Ibrahim Mo’alimu said the attack was shocking, cowardly, and barbaric.  

“I extended my condolences to victims’ families and asked Allah [God] for the wounded people to recover quickly,” Mo’alimu added. 

Jihan Abdullahi Hassan, the advisor for the Hirshabele president, said the attack was tragic and called for a “collective effort to defeat al-Shabab.” 

Meanwhile, Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre condemned the attack and sent his condolences to the families of the victims.
