An elderly woman died on Friday after falling into a pond and having two alligators attack her in Florida.
The 80-year-old woman fell into a pond at the Boca Royale Golf and Country Club in Englewood in Florida at about 8:15 PM and “struggled to stay afloat”.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said two alligators were seen near the victim and “ultimately grabbed her” as she was in the water.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission responded to the scene to capture the reptiles, where an alligator trapper removed two alligators, one measured at 8 feet, 10 inches in length, and the other 7 feet, 7 inches long.
However, it is unknown if the creatures were the exact ones involved in the incident.
Doug Foote, the General Manager at the Boca Royale Golf and Country Club, expressed his condolences to the woman’s loved ones.
“Our hearts go out to the family members and friends affected by this loss, and we offer our deepest condolences,” he continued. “There is an ongoing investigation into details of what happened, and we are working with authorities to provide any information we have,” Foote said.
